If you are heavily tattooed at the time of your death, could you leave your tats to someone??
Question: Assuming you die leaving the tats in place, would there be a way to be sure that someone will remove the colored skin and frame it *do all the necessary things, of course* to give your family the oddest reminders of who you were?
Just a bit of a random thought there.
Answers: nasty as that sounds its actually been done, but not in an afffectionate way like you're suggesting.
There was a comandant in an ss camp in ww2, Ilse Koch, affectionately known as the ***** of buchenwald who had tattooed prisoners skin cut off and tanned to be made into lamps, handbags etc etc that she adorned her office with and gave as gifts to visiting ss officials.
Look it up if you think im joking.
ewwwww....
that is gross, but I guess a good question..
I would consult with a mortician, or the pathologists.
lol what a question...
I don't even know that that would be legal. That's kind of gross. Why wouldn't you just take pictures of the tattoos and put them in a frame. Unless you preserve the skin, I think it would eventually decompose. That's nasty!
He can always add it to his will. I'm sure there some1 out there that might do it :\
Oh man, that's an awesome idea.
If I could do it, I would. Or I could collect the artwork of other people and open a museum full of tattooed skin :-D
yes you can, I saw it on the discovery channel, someone did this before. It is the same as an urn or stuffed wildlife. I personally think it is a good idea.
penn gillette has one framed in his house...i wondered about how he got it.
i wanted the same tat as my sis had, so when she died, I had the funeral director take a pic of it for me
Yes, you can. It's more common in Japan, where traditional tattoos are done so they cover the whole body. I've seen pictures and they're really gross. They tack them up in glass cases, and the skin curls at the edges. It's also sorta cool.
You can leave it to someone in your will
I believe that someone actually did do this, they put it in their will, and upon death, they had their skin processed using a method similar to that used on leather, to preserve the tats Ewwww!
Mine mean something to me, I want to take them with me when I die.
i saw something on t.v. once about someone leaving their tattooed skin behind in a will. so it is possible. it's hanging on a wall. kindof weird.
The only place I know of where it is even legal to flay a person to preserve thier tattoos is Japan. And then, you might have to be a member of the Yakuza, the Japanese mafia, to qualify, or have a tattoo from one of their 'National Treasures', like Horibun and Horibun Jr; the only artists still using traditional Japanese tattoo equipment, inks and methods.
