Age for tattoos??
Question: This has probably been asked but I heard that now you HAVE to be 18 to get a tattoo, no exceptions in the US. But I know tons of people who have tattoos that aren't 18.
I live in Connecticut and I want to find a place where I can get a tattoo. I'm 17 but am not patient enough to wait another year until I'm 18 to get a tattoo. And my mom would give consent.
Answers: You do have to be 18, but in some cases it depends on the artist, my brother got his 1st tattoo when he was 16, because my mother was with him. So look for an artist around you who would be willing.
Should be fine as long as your mom will consent.
No person shall tattoo an unemancipated minor under eighteen years of age without the permission of the parent or guardian of such minor.
just find somebody who has a shop in their house or somebody who looks like you who is over 18 then use their id
You should wait till you are 18.
don't do it - if you get one you might later regret it. Its 18 for a reason - so impulsive kids don't do anything stupid! just wait or get one that sticks on for now
remember tatts are for life so be carefull what you get i got my first one at 16 20 years ago and now i hate it
Just wait til you're 18 It's not that long and it will be there forever when you finally get it. Just be patient and it will be that much more special when you are old enough to get one.
well i am answering this as a mother of 2 1 is 2yrs and the other is 5 1/2 mths and my friend got heres done when she was 16 without parent consent she just went in the place and said what she wanted and they said are you 18 and she said yes then they did it. it is called the dark side its in north dakota thow.
I certainly do not reccommend getting a tatoo from anywhere other than a well-established location. If you act implusively and get it done poorly, you won't be able to change it. Or you can find the right time, place, and artist and get it done right.
Hi there!!
You are correct, tattoo parlors now a days want the customer to be at least 18 years of age. A lot of people who are under 18 and want a tat bad enough usually get tattoos from friends or have connections and get their tattoos under the table . Unfortunately, depending on the situation those tattoos aren't always the best quality and sometimes they get really infected if they aren't done in a sterile environment. If you want to get inked before you're 18, call local tattoo parlors in your area and explain your situation, and tell them that your mom is willing to sign for you to give you consent to get tatted. Some tattoo parlors will allow a minor to have their legal guardian sign for them. Definitely call around! Also-----MAKE SURE that you go in and look at the artist's portfolio before you commit to getting tattooed by them. I have 2 tattoos myself, and have always taken the time to get to know my artist and their work. After all, this is going to be on you for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. So make sure you know and trust the person who is going to be permanently inking your skin! Hope this helps, and happy tattooing! :)
p.s. Also, make sure that you follow their after care instructions very carefully. They know what they're talking about, and if you don't follow the directions completely you could seriously damage your new tattoo. Good luck!!
just wait....its just a year.....n u never know. u might not wanna do it next year
I live in CT too. you can get a tattoo in the state of Connecticut with a parents permission and signature. Depending on the area of Ct in which you live there are any number of Tattooist that are very good.
your mom has to give consent and it has to be notarized.
You CAN get a tattoo when you're under 18. It's not a very good idea though. Here's why:
Any reputable shop will ask for ID. Most won't tattoo you if you're under 18, even if your parents are there saying it's okay.
So that leaves the not so good shops. You risk dirty needles, less than sanitary conditions, and a really bad tattoo.
I started getting tats when I was 14. It was really stupid. I've now spent nearly $1000 trying to cover up/fix the tats I got then.
Some decent shops MAY let you get away with it, since you are close to 18, others will say wait a year. If you do find a shop that will tattoo you, make sure you are extra careful checking them out. Don't get work there just because they will do it, make sure they will do a good job.
I think you should just wait the year. I wish I had waited.
Honestly Shops set their own rules about that. The law says you must be 18 or have a parents consent. However some shops choose to NOT do tattoos on anyone under 18 years old regardless of having a parents permission. So if your mom is going to give her consent just call ahead or stop in the shop and ask before hand. I'm sure you will find one in your area that will do your tattoo. Good Luck! :-)
If your mother will give consent, there is a good chance that you can have it done. However, this varies by shop. The shop I work in won't tattoo or pierce ANYONE under 18 parent's permission or not. Period, end of story.
Some places will request she shows up with you in person to make sure that you aren't pulling their chain. So I would call tattoo shops in your area and find out what their policy is.
Good luck.
