My navel piercing is looking kinda....odd??

Question: It looks disgustig and crusty and its oozing pus or something? Should I clean it off with alcohol or something (and NO not the alcoholic beverage)
Answers: You should try cleaning it with some Bactine (works like peroxide, but without the pain and fizzies). Stop with the alcohol, it aggravates the piercing. Also try cleaning it with antibacterial hand soap from a pump, not a bar. Bar soap is where bacteria breed!!

The crustiness is normal, but pus means infection. If you use the suggestions above and nothing changes, then I suggest taking it out and allowing it to clear up. This is a last resort, obviously, but your body is rejecting the piercing for whatever reason and it could get much much worse.

I hope it clears up!!!
yeah.... i'd definatley clean it. That sounds infected to me.
Ehh. It's infected. D: My ear piercing did that once.

Clean it with alcohol (may sting) or some sort of disinfectant. Then apply some ointment to it, and try not to irritate it with any sort of body glitter or other stuff. :/ That's all I can say.
Try doing a sea-salt soak. Mix 1 tsp of sea salt (make sure it's sea salt not table salt) and 1 cup warm water. Try to soak it (like do a vacuum seal.. awkward I know)... but this will help flush it out and disinfect it. Yes clean it with alcohol too. Watch it carefully, you might need to see a doctor.

Has it been freshly pierced? Navel piercings are a bad idea because they tend to reject easily and are very difficult to heal. Yours probably is not properly healed even if you've had it for a while since it's infected.

Check out forums and sites that are made by people who do body modification... they know the best how to take care of piercings, etc. BMEzine is one, it has links and advice, etc.

If your piercing is freshly done it will ooze fluid (since it is a puncture wound), so I can't say for sure if it's pus but use your better judgment. You might need to take it out, but be careful since pus can become trapped and it can form a dangerous abscess.
yes..... of course... ur navel piercing is definietly infected..
troythorn--what a tool!

Swab it with a bit of hydrogen peroxide, then wash it gently with some antibiotic soap and warm water (in the shower).
Wipe it daily 3x with rubbing alcohol (isopropryl).
Any signs of heat, redness or red lines, GET TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM! STAT! that's cellulitis/staph and you can die.

Good luck, kid. Dont let the squares bring ya down.
Peroxide will work too.It's infected.Clean 2 or 3 times a day.
Wash it with warm water and soap; apply an antibiotic cream.
Don't touch it with unwashed hands. Probably good idea if you put a bandaide on the piercing.
If it doesn't improve in a day or two go to the Dr. it could be a more serious infection like Staph and you'll need antibiotics.
If the area swells, is hot, hurts more than usual, stinks, changes
colour go to Dr. immediately.
The oozing stuff doesn't mean that its infected always. You could have that for a few months while its healing. Mine was like this (and still is a little bit) and I got it done the begining of February. I went back to the place I got it done at and they said it looked fine and normal. Also, if you think it's infected don't take it out because that will just trap it and it needs to drain.
If the discharge is whitish or yellowish, its lymph not pus, and it's normal for a piercing. Do sea salt soaks twice a day.

If it's green, hot and sore, go to your doctor.

Never, under any circumstances, use alcohol on piercings.
If you are not mature enough to know how to properly care for a hole that you put in your body on purpose, then maybe you were not old enough to do it in the first place! Yes you should clean it! Didn't the high quality pot head who pierced you provide you with any instructions on how to care for the puncture wound that was just placed in your abdomen?
