Anyone know a tattoo artist in virginia or a bordering state that will tatto minors with a parent present??

Question: Here's the deal... I'm 15 years old and recently overcame a severe needle phobia with intense therapy and a lot of hard work. My mom actually suggested to me that we go and get tattoos together. all her idea. crazy i know. anyway shes not so sure now that she wants to get one but she would still really like to go with me to get my first. it will be small, simple, and hidden. I need a credible artist who will do it with a parent present, VA law satates its ok with parental concent, but many artists refuse to do it. thanks for your help!! if the artist / parlor has a websight, if you could include that itd be really helpful!
Answers: I am a licensed artist in VA so i know you've read up. The legal age here even with parental consent is 16. Most studios will take you AT 16, however you and your parent will both need a state issued photo ID (like a drivers license) and your names and addresses will have to match. WV has differing laws with minor simply being under 18 so no specific age minimum. however it also has a lot of questionable studios and if you want quality artwork then wait another few months til you're 16 and get it here at a good reputable studio. DC is unregulated, however that also means their safety is unregulated and im sure oyur mom will not want to take the risk over an unregulated and therefore unlicensed studio.

Depending on what part of virginia you're in here are some good studios.

Richmond: Capital tattoo http://www.birdltd.com/shops/capital/ind...

Roanoke: Cherry Bomb (We will tattoo 16+ with parent)

Lynchburg: Caspian tattoo

I think D.C. is unregulated.

I don't know about any shops, but I think you should learn a little about tattoos in the first place before you go and get one. At fifteen your still growing, and at 25 you'll have a stretched out tattoo depending on how much you grew.
Do yourself a favor, forget the tattoo. Tats are stupid, ugly, trashey, and low class.
My boyfriend works at a tattoo shop in Lebanon Virginia. His name is Justin Willis and they tattoo minors as long as a parent is present to sign a consent form.
If there was someone that would tattoo a 15 year ld, then they are probrally either in jail, or on their way to getting arrested for criminal abuse to children. Wait til you're 18.
Most reputable tattoo artists will not tattoo a minor, even with the consent of a parent. Considering that at your age, you can change your mind with the weather, you probably cannot make this kind of decision and not regret it at some point. All the law states is that they CAN tattoo you if your mother agrees, not that they WILL. That is entirely their decision.

I'm sure that if you keep looking that you can find someone willing to tattoo you, but I hardly think it will be any artist of quality. If you are serious about getting a tattoo, think long and hard about it and wait until you are legally an adult. A tattoo isn't like putting on makeup. It's not something easily or cheaply erased. It's not something that should be done on a whim.
you have to wait till your body stops growing. period.
I'm 15 and got my first tattoo around xmas and i had mom with me to sign papers and everything ...........but anyway i had the same problem like everywhere i went they said they wouldnt tattoo a minor but then i got this awesomeo idea to go to a shop that does pircings so i got an industrial bar in my ear and my nose pirced but anyway after i got that then i asked the ppl about a tattoo and they were like ya sure. so basicly my point is you have to get in to the shop (i guess thats the best way to word it lol ) Or if you dont want to get anything pirced or your mom wont let you or whatever you could see if like anyone in your family in your case mom would want to get one and then when they go to get it you go along and ask the artist that would probaly give you a better chance than just walking in and asking good luck :)
