When did it become fashionable/common for women to shave and wax? Whose fault is it??
Question: I was just wondering, because of the millions of women who spend tons of money taking off what everyone has.
Answers: It's been around since the beginning of recorded time, sad to say.
As early as 3000 B.C. women were coming up with ways to remove body hair to make their skin more attractive, silky smooth for their own vanity and men's pleasure. Roman women around 400 B.C. were the first recorded that used blades and razors like the men. Around 1600 A.D. face hair became ugly, so eyebrows,around the hair line, and any other visible hair were removed so they had a clean face to show the world under their head coverings. Around 1700, eyebrows were back in style, but real hair wasn't used. They shaved off the natural hair and glued on animal hair. This is also the time that wigs became popular, so women shaved their heads or cut it very close, so the tall elaborate wigs could be worn better. 1800's brought a stop to all hair removal on women. But then, early 1900's women's clothing started to be more revealing. Bathing suits showed underarms for the first time. So underarm hair became ugly. Hemlines started to rise in the early 1900's, so women thought it was ugly to have hair poking out of their stockings. This is when men's shaving companies decided to make women's razors. In the 1940's, they first made girly razors in pink, and shaving creams for women.
Who is responsible? Women are.
it's the media's fault, of course! and makeup industries take advantage of our vanity so they can make billions of dollars in razors, shaving cream, etc.
It became fashionable ONLY after Gillette invented the disposable razor early in our century. Before that hair was normal and perfectly fine. But once you create a product you have to create a market for that product. Good question.
okay...figured i would be the only man first transfixed by friends like you...You would think it began in like maybe 1904. That's a great guess. And you would be wrong. It all began in Egypt. The point of romance is that every boy who loves every girl will see a fine natural hair as to be cherished(unshaved!)until this virgin child claims her forever man. It is only a Ladies Circle thing as the courser hairs grow in to shave so that at the time of a lady's 30th birthday it gives honor to mother's aunts and grandmothers and signifys a coming of age ritual of proper motherhood. more people prefer to be hairless everywhere but their head. and waxing your eyebrows takes less time than plucking them

Someone decided to cash-in on womens' insecurities, so they made it fashionable to be hairless.
These days, a lot of men are attracted to hairless women as having hair is considered masculine (since men these days are so bloody hairy :-\!).
It's sad that most women feel the pressure to conform, but I personally prefer to have shaven legs anyway... I like to feel silky and smooth as opposed to fuzzy :P
this is a great question - best answered by the gillette theory. in my experience however, most guys don't really care if their woman waxes/shaves 'down there' or not. guys aren't as shallow as some people on here would have you believe. in fact, the trend now is 'the brazilian', but only 10-20 years ago it was perfectly acceptable to go 'au natural'. In Europe it is MUCH less of a taboo for women to go with body hair - and the women seem more confident there! in the USA we live in a society where plastic surgeons are starting to dictate what's 'normal', and THAT'S SCARY!
Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods.
Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful.
Electrolysis and laser hair removal are permanent hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged.
