Microdermabrasion...whats normal? Injuries??

Question: I had microdermabrasion today for the first time, so far I am very disappointed with the entire experience. My face is very swollen and red which I understand is to be expected, but my face hurts and is burnt in spots, my entire right cheekbone has an abrasion/scab on it. Can anyone who has had dermabrasion tell me if this is normal? I am trying to decide if I should complain tomorrow......honestly the entire experience was horrible...I had some facial waxing done and she missed a spot, I had my makeup applied after the dermabrasion and she put so much on me I looked like a clown so I came straight home and washed my face, that is when I realized how horrible it looked. The swelling and redness are improving now, almost 12 hours later but the actual sores/abrasions that are scabbing....is that normal?
Answers: Your skin should not scab and makeup should not have been applied after the procedure. Application of makeup increases chances of an infection of the skin. I have had microdermabrasion done at the dermatologists plenty of times and although there is some redness there has never been scabbing or swelling. Put aquaphor on your face or bacitracin ointment. I had a similar experience with a chemical peel a few years ago. They put an more powerful application on than they should have and I had to go to the ER sometime in the early am. I developed a skin infection and had to be on antibiotics and bacitracin. Please complain and get your money back. It really is a great procedure and I am sorry you had such an awful experience.
Where did you get this done?..There is redding and sweeling afterwards..but..i am sure puttting amke-up on after is not a good idea. Your face needs time to heal. And the scabing is abit worrying. I am assuming you went to a day spa or something for this I would call, and complain for sure. You should of been told of some monor redding and swelling..but not the scabing bit.

it seems whoever did this pershaps used too vigeous of application.
No No absolutely not at all!!! Your face shouldn't even be swollen and red. I sell Mary Kay and we have a Microdermabrassion ( we use the same alumni crystal they use in dermatologist offices. I use it once a week and never had any problem and I do have sensitive skin. I always use it at night and recommend the same to my customers so they are not putting products on top.
I would defiantly have it checked and complain.
If you decide you want to try it again in the future (sure it's not even a thought right now) go to Mary Kay.com and search for a consultant in your area to get a free sample.

Good Luck!!
WOW! That's really not good. I would definately complain. Mary Kay has a great microdermabrasion kit for a reasonable price. I haven't tried it but I am a Mary Kay consultant and I am very impressed with the other products I use and have had no complaints about the kit. You should say something and I would even ask for my money back.
Good Luck!
No, you should not have any visible side effects! I am a male with sensitive skin and a fairly mild case of rosacea; I get microderms on a regular basis. They use the most gentle setting on the machine and I actually come out less red, with my face feeling nice and smooth.

My latest was just last week, and I asked some questions that a lady friend of mine had about wearing makeup afterwards. I was told that women should avoid it after treatment, just let them apply a good moisturizer.

I would not give up on having microderms, but I would certainly find another skin care center!
Ask for a consultation first with a licensed estitician and let her know of your previous (bad) experience. Good luck.
