Applying eyeliner??
Question: I bought an eye liner pencil yesterday, but I don't know how to use it. My sister says you put it on the lower rim if your eye, just above the eyelashes, along a line level with the tearduct. I did this, but it was washed off by my eye. My Mum says you put it below your lower eyelashes, and I have heard other people say you put it above your eye. Please help! who is right?, and how do I apply it?

Basic guidelines:
Don't put it below the lower lashes unless you do the upper line and the inner lower lid too, then it'll give you a lovely smokey dramatic look.
For everyday, just put it above your upper lashes, but not too thickly - experiment until you have a line that looks subtle and right for you. The upper line often responds better to liquid liner than kohl pencil (eye liner pencil) as it is a cleaner line and, once you have the hang of it, easier to control.
If you do want to just enhance the inner lower lid, then you may find it balances the look better if you use mascara as well - in fact that goes for all of these looks.
When you're applying it, I've found that it does smear off when you first put it on. This is partly due to the moisture in the eye, partly due to it being bloted off by the upper lid. To prevent this, apply it once, blink a few times, then apply it again - the second time it'll hang around a bit longer.
I'd advise against using it inside the lids if you wear contact lenses though, it'll make them very blurry and grubby.
There are other things you can try too, like different shades - try grey for a lighter, daytime look, or if you're a bit knackered or your eyes are a bit pink, then use a white liner to brighten them.
And the other cardinal rule of makeup - eyes OR lips, never both. DO dark and smoky eyes and keep the lips plain gloss or lip balm, or do dramatic red lips and the tiniest smudge of liner and mascara.

I personally wear it above my eye. But equally lots of people wear it on that little like ledge above your bottow eyelashes, or below the bottom eyelashes.

I had the same problem so I went to Clinique and asked them. The lady said it should go above your eyelashes so it's actaully on your eyelid but only at the bottom. You start from the outside working your way to about half way. This is how i were mine now and i no longer end up with black eyes.
well it firstly depends on the type of eyeliner you have, if its kohl it tends to be more expensive and stays on better and even if it wears off it leaves the slightly black look
if its cheaper its not soo good and may wash off quickly
if its liquid eyeliner..well frankly dont bother i hate the stuff!

You can put it above your lashes on the upper eyelid. You can also apply it below your lashes on the lower part of your eye. Be sure to 'smudge' it to give it the soft seductive smokey look.
it depends what kindof look u want. use it thinly on the top and bottom. wearing it only on the bottom makes ur eyes look droopy.

Beneath your lower lashes, but not too harshly can make your eyes look bigger and by taking this to the upper lash line, you are then framing your eye. The way you experimented makes your eye narrow.
I do all 3 of those! It depends on how dramatic you want your eyes to look, you can put it just below your lower lashes and smudge it for a subtle soft look or as you tried on your lower lashes on the inside, it washes off for me too, so I sometimes use a liquid liner. When I go out I put it on my top eye lid but it takes alot of practice to get it nice an neat. Just practice and find out what looks best for you. :)

well i put mine on. below my eyelashes and i put it on right above my eyelid so it really brings out your eye color. and also application is easy. all you do is press gently so you don't hurt your eye and then you just slide it across the lower rim below your eyelash and right above your eyelashes on your eyelid. hope that helps!
Dont put it below ur lower lashes unless you are also lining the inner line as well. It will look very far apart from your eye and really tacky. Line your eye lightly if its during the day bc heavy liner if its not night time, looks terrible. Anyway, it depends on the look you are going for. During the day, I sometimes line my upper lid a little bit and hardly ever the lower lid. maybe you can practice on some of your friends first or on paper. Dont poke ur eye out!!! :)

If you want your eyes to look smaller use it above your bottom lashes- on the lower rim. If you want a smokier look use it under your lower lashes. Or try what i do, its hard though- use it along the top lid just above your eye lashes- it gives a smokier look- or just use it along the top but in the corner to make your lashes look fuller.

Dont apply it too thick though!
with the top lid pull your eye to the side like stretching it taught and then just apply across, thinly. With the bottom lid either do it on the inner bit of your eye or just below your eyelashes, this depends on what size your eye is. If your eye is big then you can put it in the inner eye but if your eye is small then in the inner eye it makes your eye look small. Make sure you don't put it on too thick especially if you have paler skin. x
you can apply it on all these parts of the eye though if you are lining the top lid its much better to use liquid eyeliner as it gives a better look than pencil. I bought a rimmel special eyes and have been lining the lower inner eye with that and it dosen't wash away easily its really good, whereas others I had used washed away fast. Alot of people line the outer lower eye on the lashes which gives a good look to smudge and give a nice effect.
i hate pencil eyeliner!!!!!! use a liquid eyeliner...its much easier and it wont come off... just make sure when u apply it to the top lids keep ur eyes closed after applying it until it dries. also make sure that u wipe the brush good before applying expecially if new eyeliner to get the excess off! then u have sexy eyes!!

Hi, You can put it either above or below your eyelash, although most people put it above. The reason why you even use eyeliner is to make you eyelashes appear thicker.

The way i do my eyeliner is i put in on the lower rim of my eye and under the under lashes.. i also put a thin layer on top above my lashes.. you could do it either way ... sometimes it takes your eyes to get used to having eyeliner and your eye oils will end up fading the liner on the bottom. once your used to it , it should be fine.. but always use mascara too because it will really compliment the eyeliner.
It really doesn't matter who's right. It matters where YOU want it. Maybe you should get a waterproof eyeliner pencil. That's only if you want to wear it right above your bottom lashes. I prefer all three ways myself.
